Why this site exists
The facts about crypto in Australia are spread across the ATO, ASIC and its Moneysmart site, AUSTRAC, Scamwatch and the Federal Register of Legislation. Much of what you find elsewhere is written to get you to sign up somewhere. We bring the official facts together, in plain language, with a link and a date behind each one.
What we do
- Explain crypto tax as the ATO sets it out, with the date we read each ATO page.
- Explain the rules that apply to crypto businesses, including AUSTRAC registration (an anti-money laundering registration, not a licence or a safety rating) and the new digital asset platform law that starts on 8 April 2027.
- Show you how to check an exchange yourself on the official registers.
- Explain scams and link to the official places to report them.
What we don't do
- We don't sell crypto, hold your money or tokens, or run an exchange.
- We don't rank exchanges, coins or wallets, or say which to choose.
- We don't publish interest, staking or yield rates.
